Obituary

Norma Lee (Colmer) Muir, 86 of Pekin, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Sterling Care Nursing Facility, Frostburg. Born on December 21, 1936 in Pekin, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. Colmer and Elizabeth (Reid) Colmer. Norma Lee grew up in Pekin and spent most of her life there while she raised her own family.

Together with her parents she was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Dennis Colmer; her first husband, Pvt. Charles Shroyer, whom died in action in Korea; father and mother-in-law, William C. and Sarabelle (Kiddy) Muir and several other in-laws from her marriage to David Muir including William “Tucker” and Evelyn “Tiny” Muir, Margaret and Herbert Vicker, Betty Lease, Phyllis and Raymond Porter, James and Bea Muir and Dorothy and Glen Morgan. In addition, she was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Robert Dawson, Robert Toey and William Q. Nicol and a son-in-law, Russell Hershman.

Norma Lee was a catholic by faith and attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Westernport. In addition to being a homemaker and a great mother, she worked briefly as a waitress at The White Coffee Pot in LaVale Plaza, Flushing Shirt Mfg., Grantsville and sold Avon for many years. She was a member and Past President of the Women’s FOE, originally in Frostburg and later in Cresaptown.  She and her sisters, “The Colmer Sisters”, loved to dance. You would see them together in many areas where there was music playing.  She was also an avid reader.

She is survived by her beloved husband, David Muir, they grew up together in Pekin but never dated until after Dave returned from the service and they met at Chappy Jones’ Bar in Pekin. They married on June 11, 1955. She is also survived by four daughters, Denise Fairgrieve and husband “Dusty”, Nancy Myers and husband “Bobby”, Gail Hershman, and Valerie Brown and husband Steve; five sisters, “The Colmer Sisters”, Janet Nicol, Nancy Lee and husband James, Ida Mae Toey, Dorothy Butler and husband Don and Mary Lou Coleman; ten grandchildren, including grandson Nick Clark who resided with Norma Lee and Dave; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 6, 2022 from 6-8 PM at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Father Ed Hendricks officiating. Interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
