Leona Viola (Smith) Clark

Leona Viola (Smith) Clark, age 102, of Lonaconing died Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Egle Nursing Home. Born on November 28, 1920 in Lonaconing she was the daughter of the late Edgar M. Smith and Della Mae (Clingerman) Smith. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wheeler W. Clark Sr., daughter Wanita Mae Hausrath, grandson Andrew B. Clark, sisters Loretta C. Smith, Ada Verneda Kifer and brothers Luther Grant Smith, Edgar M. “Pete” Smith Jr., Lloyd Wayne Smith, Robert D. Smith, and Kenneth D. Smith.

Leona was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lonaconing where she taught girls Sunday school classes for many years. She enjoyed gospel music and singing as part of the church congregation and special vocal presentations with other members of the congregation.

She is survived by her son Wheeler W. Clark Jr. and Leona Crain of Peyton, CO; son-in-law Charles Hausrath of Fort Ashby, WV; grandchildren Mark Hoofnagle of Denver, CO, Amy Janousek of Wasilla, AK and Bradley Berry of Front Royal, VA; great-grandchildren Keegan Clark, Audrey Hoofnagle, Julia Hoofnagle, Grant Hoofnagle, Makayla Janousek and Dominick Janousek; sisters-in-law Faye Smith of Barton and Edna Clark of Lonaconing and numerous nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 1:00 PM with Pastor David Schoch officiating. Interment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Cumberland.
