Donald Brashear

August 23, 1942 — April 13, 2023

Barton, MD

Donald P. Brashear, 80, of Barton, MD passed away peacefully at his home on April 13, 2023, with his loving wife at his side.

Born August 23, 1942, in Westernport, MD, he was the son of the late William and Erma (Miller) Brashear. He was also preceded in death by a son, Brian Brashear, a granddaughter, Britley Brashear, a great-granddaughter, four brothers, Wayne, Billie, Paul, and David and four sisters, Betty Jose, Faye Spencer, Ruth Young and Retha Miller.

Donnie attended Bruce High School and was educated in the “school of hard knocks.” His working career began when he was twelve years old, cutting props for W&W Coal Mines. He worked as a welder and mechanic for several area coal companies. He retired as a self-employed welder several years ago.

Donnie liked collecting antiques and old tools from the old coal mines. He was a sentimental person who enjoyed listening to country music- especially “Send Me the Pillow That You Dream On.” He loved to joke and talk about “the good old days” and argue about the family tree for hours. No one was ever in doubt about Donnie’s opinions..

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Jean (Thomas) Brashear; three sons, Wendell Brashear and wife Mary of Uniontown, PA, Donald Brashear and wife Brenda of Kingwood, WV, and Tony Brashear of Uniontown, PA; seven grandchildren, Wendell, JR, Andrea, Jason, Chad, Adam and Katie Brashear; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Brashear and wife Darlene and Timothy Brashear and wife Rosemary all of Westernport, MD; one sister, Gloria Jean Syromi of Baltimore, MD; a sister-in-law, Becky Thomas and her daughter Sarah; a brother-in-law, Buddy Thomas and a very special “adopted” daughter, Sadie Bennet of Barton, MD.

At Donnie’s request there will be no viewing or funeral services. Burial will take place at a later date in the Miller Cemetery, Stoney Run, Westernport, MD.

Go with God, Donnie. We will miss you.
