Betty Lee Simmons, 82, formerly of Wood Street and Mechanic Street, Frostburg, died Monday, September 5, 2022 at UPMC Western Maryland, Cumberland. Born on April 17, 1940 in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Robert Andrew McClure and Katherine (Coyle) McClure.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Bruce Simmons on March 4, 2011, two siblings, Mary McClure and Robert McClure and a great-granddaughter, Quinn.
Betty worked for the Allegany County Board of Education for 37 years. She enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, and bingo in her spare time. She had coached softball in the past and had loved every minute of it. She especially enjoyed traveling and long car rides with Bruce meant so much to her. She made the holidays special; Christmas was magical and she handmade Halloween costumes for the kids. She enjoyed so much about life but being with family was at the top of her list.
She is survived by four children, Shelia Broadwater (Buck Robertson), Carla McLaughlin (the late Robert McLaughlin), Bruce Simmons Jr. (Melissa), Sheryl Diehl (Bryan); eleven grandchildren, Steven Diggs (fiancé Bethany), Samuel Diggs (Meleana), Amanda Petenbrink (Richard), Zachary McLaughlin, Bruce Simmons III (Maranda), Cheri Baker (Jeremy), Derek Simmons (Jessica), Elliott Simmons (Cara), Christopher Diehl , Rachel Diehl, Russel Diehl (Sarah); sixteen great-grandchildren, Ambrose, Alena, Andrew, Kensington, Sophia, Michelle, Katie, Nathan, Hunter, Isiah, Natalie, Lexie, Chloe, Liam, Jacob and Waylon; four siblings, Barbara Ewing, Patricia Jones, George McClure, and Joseph McClure; sister-in-law, Bernadette Simmons and her son, Scott; several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Coco.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 AM with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating. Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Samuel, Zachary, Andrew, Jeremy, Nathan, Hunter, Christopher, Russel, Travis, Bruce III, Derek, Elliott and honorary pallbearer Steven.
The family would like thank Dr. Chessman and the staff of the emergency room and Jessica and staff of Sterling Care for the care they provided to Betty.
