William Sines

November 10, 1926 — April 30, 2010

On April 30, 2010 William B. Sines passed peacefully with his family and friends by his side in his home.
Born November 10, 1926 near Swallow Falls, MD he was the eldest of eleven children. He was the son of the late Gladys Marie (Sines) Sines and Silas Sines, Sr. At age 3 he and his family moved to Branchville to where his father was superintendent of the Maryland State Forest Nursery. Later the family moved to Glen Burnie where Silas Sr., was the superintendent of a new nursery. They lived in the onsite house where they learned the true value of family and hard work with all eleven children and two parents living in a modest sized home with one bathroom.
He was a former member of the Spencerville Seventh Day Adventist Church, Silver Spring and was currently a member of the Cumberland SDA Church.
Blaine's wife of 62 years, Courtney B. Sines, passed away just nine weeks earlier. They raised two sons, Stephen B. Sines of LaVale and Thomas W. Sines of Cumberland both whom they were extremely proud. Thomas has been a special blessing living at home and taking care of his parents.
Blaine is also survived by Stephen's wife Kimberly Sines with daughter Vera J. Klank and husband Nicholas Klank of Cumberland. Blaine's brothers and sisters are Irene Heine and late husband Joseph, Juanita Walker and late husband Herbert, Silas Sines Jr. and wife Bonnie, Ernest Sines and wife Barbara, Allen Sines and wife Jane, Gwendolyn Dick and husband Kenneth, James Sines and wife Betty, Ronald Sines and wife Babs, Janice Sines and husband Charles, and the late Louise Lawton and husband Morris.
Blain was a proud veteran , enlisting in the US Navy at age 17. He served in Hawaii, China, Japan, Cuba, Trinidad and the Marshal Islands. He was on the USS Chicago in Tokyo Bay at the official surrender of Japan. Later he and other crewmates walked through the devastation of Hiroshima only weeks after the bomb was dropped.
Blaine lived a rich and full live as a devoted husband, father, brother and son. He enjoyed hunting and gardening but mostly he enjoyed family,
The family would like to give a special thank you to Home Hospice and Comfort Keepers care givers who have become an extended family.
Family and friends will be received at the Mountain Top Seventh Day Adventist Church located on Route 219 between Deep Creek Lake and Oakland on Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 12:45 PM to 1:15 PM. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Steven A. Wilsey , D. Min officiating. Interment will be held at the Taylor-Sines Cemetery, Oakland. Military Rites will be accorded by local veterans organizations. Arrangements by Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Midland. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.eichhornmckenzie.com.
