Thomas Clarke

April 13, 1948 — September 21, 2012

Thomas John Clarke, 64 of Lonaconing, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.
Tom’s passing was truly a reflection of his life.  He was brave beyond belief and wanted everyone to know that he never gave up.  His faith in God led him to a peaceful place.  He comforted those who were with him, just as he had always supported friends and family.  His humor eased their tension, as his smile always brought joy to those who knew him.  In his final moments, his bravery inspired all those who watched over him, just as his strength had always served as the foundation of the family that loved him so dearly.
Tom was born on April 13, 1948, in Midland, Maryland to the late Marshall A. and Alfreeda (Davis) Clarke.  He was employed by Bechtel Corporation, a San Francisco based engineering and construction firm for over 35 years. Tom and his family lived all across the United States while he worked for Bechtel. He had many friends at Bechtel who loyally supported him through his final days.
On February 3, 1968, Tom married Mary Jane (Evans) Clarke, the love of his life.  They have two daughters Jennifer Jaye Clarke Hughes, and special son –in-law Rickie, Janette Marie Clark (and significant other Bryan Robertson and his son Dayne).  He is also survived by his siblings Robert M. Clarke (wife Nellie), Betty Preston (husband Tom), Sue Martin (husband Eugene), James Clarke (wife Gail) and Linda Brown (husband Bill). His brother-in-law, Dan Evans (wife Betty Jean) and sister-in-law Mary Catherine Evans.  Special Cousins Harry and Mary Shobe. His nieces and nephews Roberta Clarke, Robert Clarke, the late Christine Clarke Spiker, Daniel Evans, Lori Beth Ritchie, Robert Evans, Mary Catherine Evans, John Evans, Steve Preston, Rebecca Carter,  Eugene Martin, Jr.,  Kim Cosner , David Martin, Marshall Clarke, Melissa Appleby, Mamie Flannery, Eric Brown and two great nieces Lexi and Ella Evans.
Tom is also survived by his grandson, Thomas Frederick (Tommy) Hughes who was the love of his life and “buddy”.  They spent many special times together, hunting, fishing and cruising the Caribbean.  Saturday breakfasts were a special time that they spent together.  Where one went, the other was not far behind.
He was preceded in death by many special great-aunts; Verna Howell, Evelyn (Mickey) Businsky, Rosalie Shobe, Lola Martin, and Eileen O’Brien.
Tom wanted to be remembered by his smile and the love he had for his family and friends.
