Robert "Brownie" Brown

March 5, 1934 — January 3, 2016

Robert L. “Brownie” Brown, 81, died Sunday, January 3, at Golden Living Center.

Born in Lonaconing, Maryland, March 5, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Florence (Kiddy) Brown.

He was preceded in death by brothers William (Evelyn), Lloyd (Mabel), James, Pete and Roy (Wanda); sisters Audrey, Josephine, Margaret, Mabel (John), Gladys, and Ruth. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law William, John, Ike, and Andy Smith and sister-in-law Betty Smith.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Ann, daughters Roberta and Khrista, grandchildren Addie, Ben, and Emma, and his granddog Bea.

He is also survived by brothers-in-law William Williamson, Robert (Wanda) and Jim (Dianni) Smith; sisters-in-law Marian Brown, Betty Lee, Shirley, Nancy, and Mabel Smith. Numerous nieces and nephews survive him.

Brownie was employed at ABL as a security guard for 39 years; he served as an MP in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He was a 1952 graduate of Central High School.

He was an active member of the Central Alumni and Oak Hill Cemetery Associations.  He was an amateur historian, spending years collecting photographs of “Coney” and coal mining memorabilia. He enjoyed going to yard sales and working in his yard.

Friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A. in Lonaconing Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 11 A.M. by Pastors Matthew Eichhorn and Alexa Smith.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by Farrady Post #24 American Legion, Frostburg, MD.

Pallbearers will be nephews Bobby, Jeff, Greg and Luke Smith, grandchildren Ben and Emma, Pat McMahon, Paul Nolan and Richard Grandstaff. Honorary pallbearers are nephews Earl, Will and John Smith and Bill Patton.

The family would like to thank Brownie’s caregivers Linda Cutter, Pat Russell and Pat Kenney for their kindness and support. Thanks to Dr. Bielec and the Wound Care Center; Dr. Ranjathan, Dawn Wolford and the Dialysis Center; Dr. Riley and Urology Associates, and Dr. Dalal and Dr. Sidhu for their care and compassion towards Brownie. Thanks also to the Western Maryland Home Health Service Team ,Veterans’ Administration and Home Based Primary Care Team and Golden Living Center, Cumberland.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the George’s Creek Ambulance Service or the Oak Hill Cemetery Association.

Bob was a devoted husband, dad and pap; he will be greatly missed.
