Paul G. Shearer died on November 11, 2017, after a brief illness. Born on June 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Leroy “Bud” Shearer and Isabel (Yates) Shearer. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Junior Yates and his brother-in-law, Eugene “Buddy” Thrasher.
Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathryn Stakem Shearer, his son Brian Shearer and wife Molly (Borgman) Shearer of Hagerstown, MD, his daughter Maureen Shearer Lauder and husband George Lauder of Cumberland, MD. He is also survived by his grandchildren, who were the loves of his life, Alex, Madeline, and Emma Shearer of Hagerstown and Claire and Grace Lauder of Cumberland, his sister Brenda Thrasher of Midland, MD and sister-in-law, Betty Yates of Frostburg, MD, one niece, Sandy Ayers and four nephews, Dan Yates, Joe Yates, Tom Thrasher and Todd Thrasher. He also leaves behind his beloved rescue cat, Hairy.
Paul graduated from Beall High School in 1956. He was employed at Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland, MD. After retiring, he devoted his time to restoring a 1949 Ford Pick-up Truck and more recently a 1939 Chevrolet Coupe. He was a former member of the George’s Creek Cruisers and Classy Chassis Car Club.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland, MD. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM with Father Ed Hendricks officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Midland, MD.
At the request of the family donations may be made in memory of Paul to the Allegany County Animal Shelter at 716 Furnace Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.
