Mary Catherine (Knox) Guthrie, 76, of Lonaconing passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Frostburg Village Nursing Home; where she had been a resident since January 20, 2016. Born on June 26, 1939 in Swanton, MD she was the daughter of the late Russell Earl Knox and the late Florence Anna (Hare) Knox.
She was preceded in death by her grandson Shawn Patrick Knox, a stepson Ronald Guthrie, her sister Hazel Marie Knox and an infant sister.
Mary was a member of the First Assembly of God of Lonaconing where she was active for many years with Women’s Ministries. She was also a life member of George’s Creek Ambulance Service, having given over 35 years of volunteer service. She was also a past member of the Good Will Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving Mary are her two sons Robert “Robbie” Knox, with whom she resided prior to going to the nursing home, and his wife Jenny and Terry Knox and wife Christina of North Carolina; two grandchildren Christopher Knox, whom she raised, and Stephanie (Knox) Williams; one great-granddaughter Lorraine Knox, whom she was able to meet in January; two sisters Betty Guthrie and Bertha Wilt and their families; six stepchildren Roger Guthrie of Friendsville, Roy Guthrie of Swanton, Randall Guthrie of Hedgesville, WV, Rex Guthrie of Swanton, Sharon McCormick of Uniontown, PA and Sandy Sisler of McHenry and their families and her faithful companion Cain.
Mary was cremated in accordance with her wishes. A memorial service will be held at the First Assembly of God Church of Lonaconing on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 1:00PM with Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held two hours prior to the service from 11:00AM-1:00PM. George’s Creek Ambulance Service will hold a memorial service at noon. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Glendale Cemetery, Swanton, MD.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Mary’s memory to George’s Creek Ambulance Service at 19 Union Street, Lonaconing, MD 21539 or First Assembly of God Church at 17222 Assembly Lane, Lonaconing, MD 21539
