Kathryn Ann Stakem Shearer, 84, of Midland, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at her home.
Born August 22, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Catherine (Canty) Stakem. She was married to Paul Gene Shearer on May 3, 1959, who preceded her in death on November 11, 2017. She was also preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Eugene “Buddy” Thrasher and Junior “Cram” Yates.
Kathryn was a 1955 graduate of Beall High School. She worked in the Allegany County School System at Bel Air Elementary as the school secretary for most of her career. She was blessed to have a job that she loved, and where she made life-long friends.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish/ St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Sodality.
Surviving are her children, Brian Shearer and wife Molly (Borgman) Shearer, and Maureen Shearer Lauder and husband George Lauder, Jr. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren and their companions, Alex Shearer and Shannon, Madeline Shearer and Pete, Claire Lauder and Angelo, Emma Shearer, and Grace Lauder and Jacob.
She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Brenda Thrasher and Betty Yates; niece Sandy Yates Ayers, and nephews Dan Yates, Joe Yates, Tom Thrasher and Todd Thrasher. Kathryn had many special friends and lovely neighbors who gave her great joy and helped her in so many ways.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Midland, on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 1:00 PM with Father Ed Hendricks officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service from Noon-1:00 PM. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Midland. Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A. is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Kathryn to the Town of Midland, earmarked for the new nativity scene the town seeks to purchase. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Midland and mailed to 19823 Big Lane, Midland, MD 21532.
