Joseph Dean Archer, 72, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born on August 4, 1940 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Francis Archer and Lola Flink Archer.
Joe resided at Maryland's Rosewood Center until 1984, at which time he moved to Cumberland to an independently operated Alternative Living Unit at the home of Mrs. Joanne Metz, managed by The Council for Exceptional Children and Adults, Inc.
Joe lived with Mrs. Metz and her family until 2007, when he and his two best friends, George Gordon and William Egerton, moved into their own home supported by C.E.C.A.
Joe retired from Horizon Goodwill Industries developmental program in 2012.
Joe is survived by Mrs. Joanne Metz, his friends George Gordon and William Egerton and by his caregivers who were his family.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from 11:00 AM - Noon. A funeral service will be held immediately following at Noon with Rev. George Loar officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
