John William Gattens, 69, of Laurel Run Road, Barton died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at his residence. Born on August 20, 1946 in Keyser, West Virginia he was the son of the late Elmer Gattens and Mary (Foutz) Gattens.
John was a graduate of Valley High School, Lonaconing and a past member of Local 489 Plumbers and Steam Fitters, Cumberland. Serving for three years in the U.S. Army, he was a Vietnam Veteran. He was also a member of the Dogwood Flat Hunting and Fishing Club, Barton.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheri Thomas and husband Willie of Moscow; two grandchildren, Brett and Makayla Thomas; three brothers, Charles Gattens and wife Shirley, Richard Gattens and Fred Gattens and wife Kim; three sisters, Sharon Wright and husband Bob, Cindy Youngblood and husband Harry and Teri Lavin and husband Dwayne and numerous nieces and nephews.
At his request he will be cremated and no viewing will be held. Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing assisted the family.
