James "Shaq" E. Brodie

James E. “Shaq” Brodie, 53, of Lonaconing, MD, died Friday, August 28, 2026, at his residence. Born on May 28, 1973, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Robert Andrew Brodie Sr. and Karina Katherine (Beeman) Brodie.

He was also preceded in death by his oldest brother, Robert Andrew Brodie Jr.

Jim was a 1991 graduate of Westmar High School and continued his education at Frostburg State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He retired in 2023 after a 25‑year career with Unicor Industries within the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Jim was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and baseball in general, and a passionate supporter of his favorite football teams, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Baltimore Ravens. He was also a master of the grill, known for his love of grilling and smoking meats on his wide collection of grills and smokers. He enjoyed completing a variety of puzzles each day—a quiet ritual he rarely missed.

Above all, Jim will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He had an easy, natural ability to make others laugh, bringing laughter to any setting.

He is survived by his brother, William C. Brodie; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Brodie; his beloved canine companion, Lucy; and a wide circle of friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 2–4 PM at Wilhelm‑Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM with Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

Pallbearers will be Will Brodie, Fred Pritts, Denny Moffatt, Joe Moffatt, Todd Snyder, Jim Lauder, Dave Robison, and Andrew Nicol.
