Harry Louis Thomas of Zephyrhills, FL died Tuesday, January 12, 2015 in Gambrills, MD while in hospice care at the Household of Angels. Born on July 27, 1922 in Moscow, MD he was the son of the late William Henry Thomas and Lola (Pierce) Thomas-Warnick and preceded in death by stillborn son, Darrell Keith Thomas.
Harry was a member of the Barton United Methodist Church, Barton, MD and the Marley United Methodist Church, Glen Burnie, MD. "Our Pop" was a coalminer in West Virginia, a bus driver in Baltimore, then later retired as an ironworker from Local Union #16 in Baltimore.
He graduated from Barton High School, Barton, MD in 1941 and began his career as a liberty ship builder in Fairfield, Baltimore, MD.
He was a lifetime member of the Glen Burnie Lodge AF & AM #213, Moose Lodge and Barton Gun Club in Western Maryland. Harry was one of several founders of the Little League Baseball and Boy Scouts in Marley, Glen Burnie.
Harry was a long time avid golfer. He assisted with the design and build with creativity of the Dade City Golf Course. He was also a member of the Mill Creek Golf Club in West Virginia.
Everybody knew him as either "Buster" or "Big Chew". His claim to fame was being an awesome baseball catcher in the Glen Rodgers B League, West Virginia and that has been remembered for years.
He survived by his loving wife of almost 71 years, Golda "Pat" Vivian (Marrical) Thomas, they married on April 22, 1944. He is also survived by two sons, Donald H. Thomas and wife Susan of Crownsville, MD and David Thomas and wife Carol of Petoskey, MI; six grandchildren, Brian Thomas, Michael Thomas, Jennifer Thomas, Patrick Rosko, Kimberly Thomas-Roenigk and Justin Thomas and twelve great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A, Lonaconing on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 6-8PM. A memorial service will be held by the Mason's of Georges Creek Valley Masonic Lodge #161 AF & AM at 7:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Fred Iser officiating. Interment will be held Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills, MD. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Harry's memory to the Salvation Army www.salvationarmyusa.org.
