Grover Fazenbaker

Grover Clayton Fazenbaker, 71, of Bluebaugh Road, Lonaconing died Tuesday, January
11, 2011 at his residence. Born February 28, 1939 in Lonaconing he was the son of the
late Delbert Fazenbaker and Delbeth (Miller) Fazenbaker.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Fazenbaker and Louie Fazenbaker, as
well as sister in law, Colleen (Shockey) Fazenbaker and brother in law "Dimps"
Schramm.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing. He retired from Westvaco Corp., Luke where he worked in tour maintenance. Grover was a 1957 graduate of Valley High School where he was a standout athlete in baseball as a pitcher and in soccer. Befriended by Lefty Grove, who helped teach him how to pitch and bowl, Grover made an outstanding bowler. He succeeded with the first 300 in Lonaconing in the 1960's while bowling Rubberband Duckpins. He pitched for the Barton Twilight league for fifteen years. Also an excellent trap shooter, he won the Class C State Championship in the late 1970's and was a founding member of the Lonaconing Trap Club. His athleticism earned him an award given by the Lonaconing Recreation Commission in 1972 . More recently Grover bowled in a mixed league at Rainbow Lanes. His love for sports, especially bowling lead to spending time later in life watching his grandchildren bowl and take on other endeavors which he enjoyed very much. He was the biggest fan of the ACC Conference Basketball especially the Maryland Terrapins and professional bowling. Grover was an avid lover of sports and his achievements will always be remembered.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara "Joan" (Beeman) Fazenbaker; four daughters, Annette Kenner and husband Rick of Midland, Beth Kyle and husband Joby of
Westernport, Susie Mason and husband Rocky of Baltimore and Kathy Broadwater of
Lonaconing; twelve grandchildren, Shannon Kenner Vanetta, Rick Kenner, Bob Kenner,
Lindsay Mason, Curtis Broadwater, Megan Kyle, Anna Broadwater, J.D. Royer, Amanda
Royer, Kayla Royer, Cody Mason and Garret Broadwater; four great-grandchildren,
Kaelee Harvey, Madison Harvey, Audrey Harvey and Abigail Vanetta; three sisters, Ruth
Llewellyn and husband Everett of Lonaconing, Delberta Schramm of Barton and Elise
Creegan and husband Bill of LaVale; one brother, Ellie Fazenbaker and wife Cora Lee of
Barton and numerous nieces and nephews.
At his request he was cremated. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 14,
2011 at 1:00 pm at the Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. George Loar
and Rev. Mark McCallister officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to service from Noon - 1:00 PM. Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A, Lonaconing (www.eichhommckenzie.com)handled the arrangements.
