Everett "Ebb" A. Spiker

LaVale, Maryland

Everett A. “Ebb” Spiker, 88, of LaVale, died Friday, June 13, 2025 at UPMC Western Maryland, Cumberland. He was born in Midland on March 17, 1937 and he was the son of the late Everett I. Spiker and Mary (Rennie) Spiker.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark E. Spiker in 1989 and siblings Mary Rump, Helen Wolf and Daniel Spiker.

His loving wife, JoAnn (McKenzie) Spiker, survives after 69 years of marriage. They were high school sweethearts and graduated Valley High School, class of 1955.

Also surviving is his sweet daughter, Debbie Beeman and husband Aleck; granddaughters Stephanie A. Rowe and Alexa N. Stanley and husband Joe; great-grandsons, Sean McKinley, Isaac Stanley, Cy Stanley, Gavin Rowe and Colin Rowe. Surviving siblings are Dolores Kline, Betty Hoath and husband Ivan and James “Champ” Spiker and beloved nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his special friends, Floyd and Judy Coakley.

Ebb was co-owner of Lonaconing Motors for 49 years, starting in 1955 when his father bought the business. He was a member of First English Baptist Church, Frostburg, where he enjoyed bible study every Wednesday.

He enjoyed sports! He played baseball in the Pen Mar League for 22 years, winning multi-individual awards and league championships. He was proud of catching double headers at age 40.

He was the recipient of the Babe Ruth Award in Valley High School and was on the winning soccer team that went undefeated in 1955. Ebb was part of Valley’s basketball team that won the area class B championship that went to College Park. He was on the baseball team in 7th grade as a bullpen catcher. He played four years for Valley as the catcher and always hit a 350 or higher. Most recently, Ebb was inducted into the Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022.

Ebb was an avid fisherman and went to Canada for many years. He loved to dance, read, walk, and play setback with his park friends. He was very competitive in whatever he was doing and sometimes in sports a little too much. He loved his yard and flower gardens and spent many hours tending to them.

After retiring in 2004, he started volunteering in many different places and he loved it. He was on the Advisory Council at Frostburg Village for years with two years as chairman and the All-County Housing Authority as a vice chairman. Ebb volunteered at Dans Mountain State Park with the fishing rodeos and the easter egg hunt and helped to keep the park a beautiful place. He also drove the ambulance for Georges Creek Ambulance Service for ten years from 9 PM to 8 AM and was proud to say he never missed a call. He was a life member.

He also has 50 years as a member of the Lions Club, where he was president ten times. He is a Melvin Jones recipient, which is the Lions highest award. He is also a 58-year member of Rising Sun Lodge Knights of Pythias Lodge #86, past president and prelate and building chairman. He is also a 50+ year member of the Georges Creek Valley Lodge #161 A.F.&A.M. He was also a long-time member of Ali Ghan Shrine Motor Corp.

Ebb was a member of Maplehurst Country Club and played golf at least three days a week for many years. He also enjoyed playing at many other courses.

With business, sports, clubs, lodges, fraternal organizations, church, and an outgoing personality, he made a ton of friends and he loved them all. Special are his classmates of Valley High School class of 1955, who still met once a month for dinner.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 2-5 PM at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland. A memorial service will be held by Rising Sun Lodge Knights of Pythias Lodge #86 at 4:00 PM and by Georges Creek Valley Lodge #161 A.F.&A.M at 4:30 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Bruce McBride and Rev. David Sandvick officiating. Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park.

Pall bearers will be Aleck Beeman, Sean McKinley, Cy Stanley, Joe Stanley, Bill Richmond, and Floyd Coakley. Honorary pall bearers will be Gavin Rowe and Colin Rowe.
