Evelyn Marshall

March 30, 1914 — August 7, 2014

Evelyn Faye (Shaw) Marshall, 100, of Lonaconing, MD passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2014.
Born on March 30, 1914 in Moscow, MD, Mrs. Marshall was the daughter of the late Edward Shaw and Elizabeth (Palmer) Shaw.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James Bradley Marshall and her six brothers; Walter, Harry, Howard, Roy, William and John.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Judy (Marshall) McKenzie and her husband, Walter, Potomac, MD; three grandchildren, Heather (McKenzie) Collier and husband Brian, Charlotte, NC; Jessica (McKenzie) Jamerson and husband James, Dubai, U.A.E., and Meridith (McKenzie) Doub and husband Manning, Charlotte, NC.  She is also survived by four great-grandchildren; McKenzie Collier, Ben and Hunter Doub, and Aidan Jamerson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends.
Evelyn was a graduate of Barton High School and was a member of the Barton Alumni Association.  She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lonaconing.
After graduation from high school, she worked at her brother Roy’s bakery in Lonaconing where she first met her future husband, Bradley Marshall when he came in to buy donuts. They married in 1935.  In 1953, Evelyn and Bradley assumed ownership of Marshall’s Confectionery, a family-ran business, which they jointly operated until their retirement in 1984.
Marshall’s Confectionery, a familiar fixture on Main Street in “Coney” had been in the family for almost 75 years and was a favorite gathering spot for several generations of the town’s people.  Evelyn, often busy at preparing tasty meals and home-made pies, always had time to engage anyone and everyone who would venture into the tiny kitchen and share stories on the happenings of the day.
Evelyn will fondly be remembered for her devotion to family and always being there to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors in time of need.  For her, giving was a way of life.
Friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home located at 8 East Main Street in Lonaconing on Friday, August 8, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, August 9th at 12:00 Noon with Rev. Tom Morgan officiating.  A luncheon will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Lonaconing, MD following the service.   Internment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
