Doris Jean Lancaster, 99, of Old Dans Rock Road, Midland, died Monday, November 11, 2024 at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing. Born on June 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late George Shearer and Jean (Izzett) Shearer.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John “Jack” Lancaster in June of 1978 and her brother, John Shearer.
Jean was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church, Midland, where she was the leader of the nursery department for many years. A 1943 graduate of Beall High School, she was very involved in the class reunions. She had a love for traveling and for a while she worked as a tour guide for the Blue and White Line and Bollman Charter. She also worked part time for the Allegany County Board of Elections and was the 4-H leader for many years in Midland.
She is survived by her son, Barry Lancaster, and wife Nancy of Midland; two granddaughters, Courtney Henry and husband Lee and Lindsey Diehl and husband Mike; a great-granddaughter, Elleigh Jean Henry; numerous nieces and nephews; dear friends, Alicia and Marvin “Bacon” Miller and many others who were like family to her.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM at the Grace United Methodist Church, Midland. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with Rev. Marjorie Hurder-Buhrman officiating. Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park. Jean is in the care of Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland.
At the request of the family donations may be made in Jean’s memory to Grace United Methodist Church at 19915 Church St., Midland, MD 21532 or Midland Fire Company No. 1 at 14823 Broadway St., Midland, MD 21532
The family would like to thank the administration and staff of the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center for the excellent care provided to Jean.
