Charles Robert Winters, 82, of Cumberland and formerly of Midland died Friday, December 9, 2016 surrounded by his loved ones at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born in Midland on May 24, 1934 he was the son of the late Charles “Sauce” Winters and Mary “Sis” (Hunt) Winters.
He was preceded in death by a special grandson Zachary Winters, a sister Dorothy Metz, his brother James Winters and his beloved dog Sam.
Charles was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Midland. He was a graduate of Beall High School, Frostburg. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a photographer for A-Bomb Test at Yucca Flat, Arizona. As an electrician he worked for Queen City Electric and the railroad till his retirement. After he retired he delivered flowers for PharmaCare. He coached football for over 30 years throughout the area. He also coached baseball and track. He also enjoyed volunteering at Rocky Gap State Park as a camp host. He loved the kids he coached, the outdoors, fishing, taking photographs, hunting, writing poetry, his family, friends and God.
He is survived by his children Cheryl Kearchner of Cumberland and Dale Winters also of Cumberland and stepdaughter Stephanie Fink and husband Ted of Southern MD; seven grandchildren Matt Winters, Michelle Ingrodi, Jason Ingrodi and fiancé Jenna House, Shanna Vancourt and husband Charlie, Ashley Webb, Cody Kearchner and Hannah Fink; five great-grandchildren Brandon Wehr, Elliott Ingrodi, Camden House, Emmaleigh Stott and Madelyn Vancourt; a sister Joann Coleman and husband Gary and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Midland with Father Ed Hendricks, celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Midland.
Pallbearers will Tim Rayner, Mike Rayner, Bobbie Rayner, Matt Winters, Jason Ingrodi, Rodney Hyde.
